Affordable Counselling
for trainees

Trainees make an enormous commitment in order to embark upon this wonderful, highly rewarding  career path - and rightly so. Therapist training needs to be robust, challenging and diligent: we owe it to our clients and the profession as a whole.

Yet, training in counselling and psychotherapy is expensive

As well as the cost of tuition, counselling and psychotherapy trainees take on several unique additional costs; including clinical supervision, private indemnity insurance, DBS clearance, travelling to and from placement (which can be many miles away), experiential weekends, and BACP (or other body) membership.

On top of all of this (as part of their course requirements) many trainees are required to engage in a certain number of personal therapy sessions. I know that having to pay a significant amount of money for personal therapy adds real stress and, as a result, involvement in the therapeutic process can feel far from therapeutic. This diminishes what should be a truly growth-full and meaningful opportunity.

My motivation

Throughout my career I've endeavoured to make therapy accessible and affordable for my clients. I'm now carrying this ethos into my work with trainees. This is because I want to reduce the financial barriers faced by good, motivated and hard working people - people who have ultimately embarked on a career-path which exclusively aims to help others.

Counselling and psychotherapy trainees have a lot on. Besides being at placement and working towards the required 100 client hours, there's the extensive course-work. As well as this, many trainees work substantial hours in paid employment to support themselves, their families and meet the financial demands of their studies. I understand this all too well.

I aim to be more available to you by offering:

  • affordable online counselling sessions

  • weekend and evening appointments

  • as much flexibility as I possibly can.

My therapeutic approach

I work from a person-centred base, approaching sessions with authenticity, empathy and a commitment to prizing the complex individuality of each and every client. I aim to create a safe, responsive and compassionate space in which you feel will heard, valued and accepted for being exactly who you are. Whilst a real and active participant within the therapeutic relationship, I will trust in you and provide you with the space to go wherever you need to go; to make meaning from your in-session experiencing and to truly connect with important emerging and established awareness.

I also believe that strict adherence to specific theoretical models can be both challenging and limiting for clients. I am therefore keen to collaborate with clients in very real terms - to better understand their wants, needs and preferences and how therapy can be as useful an experience for them as possible. This pluralistic attitude will at times see me integrate modalities and techniques that go beyond the person-centred framework. This might include CBT, solution-focused therapy, acceptance commitment therapy and EMDR therapy.

Fees for trainee counselling

I offer counselling for trainees at £30 per 50 minute session.

Sessions can be paid for on a session-by-session basis. There is no need to 'block-book' and/or pay in bulk.

If this sounds like it might help

1. Simply fill out a brief enquiry form

2. We'll arrange a 15-20 minute initial chat (at no cost)

3. If we decide to work together we'll book in your first session

4. Before each session I'll send over (via email) a Zoom link for session access

5. You can cease our work together at any point. However, should you cancel an appointment within 24 hours of it commencing, full payment for that session will be expected.

Please note: for ethical and professional reasons, this service is not available to trainees currently enrolled on Counselling and Psychotherapy courses at the academic institution at which I work.
